Today, we are excited to announce a significant change to our search functionality, specifically related to how searches using the primary post code (or outward codes) are processed.
What is an Outward Code?
Before diving into the changes, let's clarify what an outward code is. In the context of UK postcodes, an outward code is the first part of a postcode that helps to identify a particular area or district. For example, in the postcode "SW1A 1AA," the outward code is "SW1A." This outward code allows for the geographical grouping of addresses within a specific region, making it a useful tool for location-based searches.
Previous Search Methodology
Previously, when users searched using an outward code on the Takealytics platform, our system would direct them to the geographical centre of the outward code region. From there, it would display all venues within a predefined radius (e.g. 1km) of that central point. While this method was useful for many, it didn't always capture the entire breadth of venues within the outward code region, particularly in larger or irregularly shaped areas.
New and Improved Search Functionality
After receiving valuable feedback from our clients, we recognised the need for a more comprehensive search approach. Users expressed a desire to see all venues within the defined postcode region or outward code, not just those within a certain radius of the central point. We have listened and are pleased to announce that our search methodology has been updated to reflect this.
Now, when you search using an outward code on Takealytics, you will see all venues within that outward code region. This change ensures that no venue within the specified area is overlooked, providing a more complete and accurate search result. This methodology aligns with the way many of our users conceptualise their location-based searches and offers a more intuitive and effective experience.
Further updates to build groups or venues based on outward code will be launching in the coming weeks.
